Holiday Highlights!

A little insight to my Holiday Season for 2010...

E and I traveled home to Burlington for Thanksgiving with my family this year. It was again, as always, a great trip home with much laughter, food, and games. Everyone was home for the first time in a long time, which makes my mom so happy.

E's parents spent their Thanksgiving at the casinos in Las Vegas as they always do. I sent a 20 with my father-in-law to try and win it big at Keno. I didn't win...

Both E and I spent the last week coughing and hacking our way through some kind of sickness. No fever, no throwing up (thank goodness) and no missed days from work, but made for a miserable week between the both of us. Thankfully we are on the healthy side again!

3 days left until a much needed break from work. E is going snowboarding in Colorado, and since I have no desire to strap 6 foot polls to my feet in an attempt to try and increase my chances of ending up in some kind of cast. I will be remaining here cleaning, shopping, and finding other ways to occupy my time.

I will be spending my first Christmas away from my family...ever. I am handling this surprisingly well. I think this is due to two reasons. 1) E has a great family and I really enjoy spending time with them. 2) I will be able to go home and see my family over New Years and my mom and sister will be coming up to go shopping while E is away snowboarding.

I'm handling this year's winter better than last year for some reason. I still don't like the cold, but I am not walking around this year with numb fingers and toes like I did last year. Although, I could be saying something different come February.

I still have not gotten E's Christmas present... I better get on that!

Christmas Lights

I love Christmas lights. All kinds; big, small, white, multicolored. I love how they welcome me into the Christmas season with their twinkling. I love to see how different families put up their lights each year. My parents always have a single string of white lights lining the front of our house with a big white star on the peak of our roof. While my neighbor has every possible type of light up in no particular order. Last year Ethan and I had blue lights in our bushes. This year we added a nice big tree with white lights to the front window.

I think my love for lights comes from a tradition that my family has done every year that I can remember Christmas. Each Christmas Eve we would load up in the car/van/station wagon...all of us, even the dogs (this got increasingly harder as we got older) and drive around the town looking at all the pretty lights. We knew that while we were gone looking at lights Santa would begin his journey around the world with our house. So of course as soon as we went around the block we all asked and begged to go back home straight away and see if Santa had made it yet. Mom and dad always made us continue all throughout the town. I'm very thankful they did.

Ethan even helped add to the Christmas season by taking me around Wichita to see all the beautiful lights the rich people put up when we were dating! I can't wait to do it again this year. :)
